5-Minute Makeup—Tips for a Quick and Easy Makeup Routine

Apr 15, 2021

Here are some fast hacks to simplify your makeup routine. Check out our recommended quick and easy morning routine below.

Many of us love to try the latest makeup trends but don’t necessarily have the time for long routines in the morning. Luckily, you don’t have to sacrifice looking your best or the joy of applying makeup just because you have less time in the morning. There are endless beauty hacks for people that want to keep up their active life but still express themselves through cosmetics. Here are some tips that can help simplify your routine and get you out the door while still looking polished and effortless.

Use Multiple-Use Products and Eliminate Time-Consuming Steps

One of the most general things you can do is limit the number of products and tools you are using each morning. Stick to a few steps that make you feel refreshed and ready to take on the day while avoiding those that will be too time-consuming. Pick up some products that have multiple uses or also contain skincare ingredients. Remember, you can always save multiple palette eye trends and advanced contouring for days when you have more time or a special event you are attending. These tips will just help you establish a simple makeup routine to get you out the door on a casual, day-to-day basis.

Find a Simple Morning Skincare Routine

It is important to remember that your skincare and makeup routine should be working together. If you spend time on impeccable makeup every day but are failing to care for your skin, you could be causing yourself more difficulty in the long run. A lack of skin care can cause some of the blemishes and skin issues we try to cover up.

In this regard, be sure to use some skincare essentials before applying makeup. Most notably, be sure to use moisturizer. This not only keeps your skin soft and healthy but can help your makeup apply more evenly. Because of our hectic schedules (and the way our skin does its rebuilding as we sleep), it is often suggested to use only a couple of products in the morning and save your more intensive skincare products for the evening. Sunscreen and moisturizer will be the MVPs in your morning routine.

 Apply Combination Foundations

Covering any unwanted redness or blemishes to even the skin is the part of our makeup routine that can take up the most time. Sometimes this can include an onslaught of products—primer, concealer, foundation, powder, bronzer, and setting spray. If you are looking to get through this step faster, there are a lot of combination foundations or tinted moisturizers you can use.

Some products can help you combine coverage with skincare, like a tinted moisturizer. Others have sunscreen added into the base so you can minimize products while still protecting your skin.

Additionally, you can look for products that are long-lasting or combine primer and foundation, foundation and setting products, and more. Typically, foundations that are less oily and have a more matte finish can be used in a more “one and done” method.

Try a Tinted Lip Balm instead of Lip Liners and Lipstick

If you love lip color but are looking to stick to something fast and easy, tinted lip balms will be your best friend. They keep your lips hydrated and moist all day but add enough pigment to give you a color boost. They don’t tend to require the touch-ups that denser lip colors will need but can still be refreshed throughout the day.

Keep It Simple and Focus on One Area

When you hit snooze a few too many times and are rushing to get ready, it is recommended to pick one aspect of your makeup routine as a point of focus. Even though you just woke up, a strong lip color or bright eye shadow can make it look like you spent hours getting dressed and planning your look. A statement eye or lip can always overshadow any steps you didn’t have time for and actually look incredibly fashionable.

Use Stencils for Perfect Eyeliner Every Time

We’ve all have had it happen. You draw the perfect wing on one eye, and then the next doesn’t match. You try to reapply to match the first, and it comes out even worse. Before you know it, your eyes are caked in eyeliner, and you're about to be late. Thankfully, there has been a recent trend in stencils that you can hold up to your eye and fill in for a perfect shape every time. Stencils have also been created to make filling in brows easier and more symmetrical.

Use an Eyelash Curler for Quick Lashes

If you don’t have the time to put on coats of mascara and then separate your lashes, an eyelash curler can be an efficient solution for you. In just a few seconds,  you can give your lashes a more lifted and fuller look without using any cosmetics.

Use Concealer in Place of Full Contouring

Today more than ever, it is stylish to have a lifted face and snatched, contoured appearance. However, you can mimic this style without all the layers of contour and blending time. Use concealer under the eye, sweeping up to the edge of your brow to create a lifted, cat-eye effect. This can give your face more dimension when you don’t have time to do a full contouring process.

Still Short on Time? Put More Attention on Your Eyes

Naturally, when people look at others during a conversation, they try to maintain eye contact. Their field of vision focuses on your eyes as they respond to you. In this way, when you are running short on time, you should always channel your energy to make your eyes stand out. Typically, people will focus on your eyes more when they are looking at your face. Having a strong eye look can keep you looking refreshed and naturally beautiful. In these interactions, it is likely they will not focus too much on other aspects of your face.

Use White or Nude Eyeliner on the Inside of the Lash Line

If you struggle with dark circles or always feel like your eyes look tired and don’t stand out, there is a simple hack to reverse this. Use white or nude eyeliner inside the lash line. This will make your eyes appear brighter, making them seem larger while you look sharp and more alert. Use this simple step to give off a bright and lively appearance without having to do tedious eye makeup.

Sample 5-Minute Routine:

 1. Wash face with a gentle cleanser

2. Moisturize

3. Apply a matte foundation with an added SPF

4. Create a cat eye with a quick stencil

5. Curl lashes with a curler

6. Use a tinted lip balm

7. Take on the day!

Whether you’ve been fired or are simply looking to take your career to the next level, switching jobs in the beauty and wellness industry takes strategy and planning. You can have a job or you can build a career; the choice is yours. If you find yourself job hopping frequently, either by choice or by circumstance, it’s going to be more difficult to establish yourself. A job switch is something to be taken seriously as the consequences of your move, both good and bad, can reverberate for months and even years. Before you make a job switch, think through these 5 things. YOU WILL LOSE BUSINESS We know it feels like everyone will follow you if you do leave, but not everyone does. Some won’t like the drive, the new salon, spa, or shop décor, or even your new team members. Some clients may even be looking for an excuse to try someone new. MULTIPLE MOVES RAISE A RED FLAG TO FUTURE EMPLOYERS Salon, spa, and shop owners look at your track record and if they see you’ve moved multiple times over the past 1-3 years, they are going to be less enthusiastic about hiring an “at risk” team member. YOU MAY BE THE PROBLEM If you have moved several times and are still not happy, then it’s time to do a checkup from the neck up. The only common denominator in your career choices is you. It’s time to stop and think about what it is you really want, write it down, and go find it. WHEN IT ISN’T WORKING, TALK IT OUT Let’s face it: there are going to be times when you just are not “feeling it,” and the love and newness has worn off. When you get to that point, reflect on what you are feeling and ask yourself, “Is it true and is it real?” If it is, then the only way to work through it is to go to the source and talk it out. If you don’t, it will fester and get worse. RECOGNIZE AND CELEBRATE WHAT IS WORKING Look around and appreciate the perks, joys, esthetics, flexibility, team, training, or whatever else is really great about where you work. Sometimes just shifting your thoughts can create a new perspective. Moving on After Being Fired What if your job switch is based not on choice but on circumstance and you have been fired? Being fired is extremely stressful, no matter the reason. You can find yourself struggling with all types of emotions ranging from embarrassment, anger, fear, and even depression. If you’re in this sticky situation, follow these steps to turn this potential negative into a positive. LOOK TO YOUR FUTURE It can be difficult getting past the “being fired” part, but you must move on! You have two choices: you can live in a negative space and dwell on the past or you can decide to look to your future and learn from this experience. TAKE OWNERSHIP This can be as painful as being fired itself. Spend some time taking a personal inventory of the reasons why you were dismissed. Don’t play the “blame game” and point fingers at others. Take full responsibility and turn this negative experience into a positive learning opportunity for your future. Reach out to mentors or enroll in outside education to help you grow in any areas that are keeping you from the success you are destined to achieve. MOVE FORWARD It’s time to freshen up your resume and cover letters. Be certain to point out your successes and your strengths. There is no reason to mention your dismissal at this time. INTERVIEWING During your interview for a potential new position, be prepared to answer those questions you fear the most like, “Why did you leave your last job?” Honesty is the best policy, but there’s no need to get into a long drawn out conversation about it; keep it brief. Share what you have learned and how you have made a personal commitment to learn and grow from this experience. If you have enrolled in outside education and/or have mentorship in this area be sure to share this information during your interview. For other interview tips, check out this guide. Being fired from a job can shake a person to their core. It ranks in the top of life’s most stressful situations, but if you take the initiative by enrolling in classes and reaching out to mentors to move past any barriers, you can turn things around. Job switches can happen at any time for a multitude of reasons. It’s up to you to be proactive and always go towards what you want. When you need to make big changes, make sure to do your research and make sure the changes are in the direction of your dreams.
